Here are some important updates, calendar events and information on family engagement opportunities at HPSH.
PROPOSED AIR FORCE JROTC COMMUNITY INPUT SESSION
On Monday, January 30, 2017 at 6:30pm HPSH will be hosting the 3rd and final community input session regarding the proposed Air Force JROTC program. This session will be held in the HPSH Auditorium.
ANNUAL HISTORY DAY COMPETITION
Annual History Day Competition is on Thursday February 2, 2017 in the cafeteria. Families are welcome to attend from 8am-9am. Please check into the main office when you arrive.
ALL NIGHT GRADUATION PARTY – PLANNING MEETING
The traditional ALL-NIGHT SENIOR GRAD PARTY is organized by the parents and families of seniors (and juniors), and funded through donations and ticket sales. This memorable event for our graduates has been well attended in the past and we anticipate at least 225 seniors at this year's party the evening of June 7th.
We are off to a strong start organizing with entertainment booked and activities arranged. Now we need everyone’s help and support to continue the planning and implementation. Let's work together to celebrate our graduating seniors!
Parents of Seniors - we will meet from 6:30 – 8:00pm (latest) Monday, February 6th in the HPSH Library.

FAFSA WORKSHOP NIGHT
FAFSA Workshop Night is Thursday February 9th, 2017 from 5:30 PM –7:00 PM, in the Library. Student should bring their Parent/Guardian and all materials. Get help filling out and submitting your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Financial Aid Counselors from colleges, along with the Highland Park Counselors, and College Access Program staff will be on hand to help you through the FAFSA.
A NIGHT OF ONE ACT PLAYS
On Wednesday, February 8, Thursday February 9 and Saturday, February 11, 2017 there will be 3, amazing student directed plays performed in the auditorium. The performances begin at and 7:00pm.

How To Succeed in High School Without Really Trying by Jonathan Rand, directed by Maddy Grady.
Monday, February 13, 2017 is National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID). This day is planned in conjunction with Black History month and is designed to engage families and to celebrate the partnership between students, families and schools.
We invite all parents/guardians to join us on February 13th. There will be a light brunch provided at 11:45 a.m. with a student lead program beginning at 12:19 p.m. in the auditorium.
COFFEE WITH THE COUNSELORS
Please join the HPSH Counselors from 8:00am - 9:00am on Friday, February 17, 2017 in the College and Career Resource Center (room 1310). The topic for this session is College Admissions. This is an opportunity for parents to informally talk about PSEO with our Licensed School Counselors while their student is in class.
FREE DENTAL SERVICES
FREE Dental Services February 3rd and 4th (Give Kids A Smile)
For the last several years, many local dental professionals have provided FREE dental services to teens and children in need in early February. This year, the dates are February 3rd and 4th. BUFFALO WILD WINGS FUNDRAISER
Highland Senior High has partnered with Buffalo Wild Wing at 458 Snelling Ave. Attached is a flyer explaining the program. If you go there at anytime throughout the year, simply say you’re from Highland Senior and 10% of your Bill will donated to the athletics departments of Highland Park Senior High and Highland Park Middle School.
COLLEGE AND CAREER RESOURCE CORNER
ACCESS testing will begin the week of February 6, 2017. The ACCESS test for English Language Learners (ELLs) provides a standardized measurement of academic language proficiency and is required by the state of Minnesota to monitor your child’s progress in acquiring English. Eligibility for ACCESS testing is based on one or more of the following factors--a home language other than English, language placement test scores, and/or last year’s ACCESS test scores.
Highland will be administering the Accuplacer test on Wednesday, February 15, 2017. Students needing to take the Accuplacer for St. Paul College, PSEO, or CPA should sign up in the CCRC with Mr. Biermaier. You MUST have a completed St. Paul College Application before you can take the Accuplacer.
SPPS is offering ACT prep courses to students who are currently juniors. For more information or to register, go to: www.spps.org/actprep
