Welcome to the Nokomis North Autism Classroom. My name is Christine Moerke. I have been teaching special education in the St. Paul School District for over 20 years. I have had the pleasure of working within special education settings at Eastern Heights Elementary, Expo Elementary, and Nokomis North Montesorri. I received my Undergraduate Degree in Health Education, Special Education, and Coaching from Mankato State University. I have a Master's Degree in Teacher Leadership from the University of Minnesota. I also have an Autism License from Hamline University. I have a passion for teaching students with special needs.
The Nokomis North Montesorri Autism Classroom is a federal setting 2 and 3 focused classroom. Most students receive special education services for more than 60% of the school day. Some of the students not only spend time within the general education classroom but also receive special education support for 21-60% of the school day. The focus of teaching and learning is developing student academic, motor, communication, and social-emotional skills. We use a variety of research based methods such as Social Thinking strategies, Zones of Regulation, 5 point Scales, Social Stories, Whole Body Listening, Superflex, Yoga Calm, MeMoves, and work boxes to develop these skills. We work hard at developing student skills so they can become active members of the school community.
Our school hours are 9:35-4:05.
