Principal Stibbens

From kindergarten through high school, Shawn Stibbins knows what it's like to go through the Saint Paul Public School system. He has fond memories from attending Frost Lake, Hazel Park and Johnson High School.

As Mr. Stibbins begins a new chapter as principal, Galtier Community School already holds special meaning. He worked in a mentor program at Galtier during his undergraduate schooling. It was this work that cemented his decision to become a teacher, and now principal, with a passion for education.

With extensive experience integrating technology into the classroom, Mr. Stibbins piloted the use of iPod Touch and iPads in the classroom, and has used emerging technologies to teach students and guide professional development for teachers. He is also dedicated to culturally responsive teaching.

Mr. Stibbins leads Galtier as it becomes a demonstration site for personalized learning classrooms. Mr. Stibbins will use new resources and technologies to engage students and tailor education to how they learn best. Galtier will lead the way and inform the district on what works.

Mr. Stibbins began his teaching career in Minneapolis schools. For five years he taught students in the third, fourth and fifth grades and it was this position that solidified his dedication to culturally responsive teaching. Mr. Stibbins came to Saint Paul Public Schools from Robbinsdale, where he was an assistant principal at Meadow Lake Elementary. He has been an elementary achievement specialist with Wayzata Public Schools and has also worked with Roseville Area Schools. His credentials include a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education, a Master of Arts in education and principal licensure all from Hamline University.

He looks forward to collaborating with Galtier families and staff.
