Parents Right to Know

Title I Program & Your Right to Know

Gordon Parks High School has the designation of being a Title I school. This designation means that we receive federal funding to provide all our students with additional academic support and resources. Our goal is to ensure every student has the tools they need to be successful, graduate on time, and be prepared for their next steps in college or a career.

A key part of the Title I program is our partnership with you. We believe that when our school and our families work together, our students thrive. Part of this partnership is transparency. As a parent or guardian of a student in a Title I school, you have the right to be informed about the qualifications of your student’s teachers.

Your Right to Know

Under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), you have the right to request specific information about your student's classroom teachers and any paraprofessionals who provide instructional support to your student.

You have the right to request:

  • Whether your student's teacher is licensed by the state of Minnesota for the grades and subjects they are teaching.

  • Whether the teacher is teaching under an emergency or other temporary status, meaning the state has waived certification requirements.

  • The teacher's college major and any other advanced degrees or certifications they hold.

  • The qualifications of any paraprofessionals who provide services to your student.

How to Request This Information

If you would like to receive this information, please contact me, [Principal's Name], at [Principal's Email Address] or by calling our main office at [School Phone Number]. We will provide the information to you in a timely manner.

Our Commitment to High-Quality Staff

Please know that [School District Name] and [School Name] are fully committed to hiring and retaining highly qualified teachers. All our educators meet the state's rigorous certification standards, and we are proud of the talented and dedicated staff who work with our students every day.

Additional Notifications

In addition to the rights listed above, our school will provide you with timely notice if your student is assigned to, or has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by, a teacher who does not meet the state's certification requirements for their grade level or subject.

We value your involvement and are grateful for your partnership in your student's education. If you have any questions about our Title I program or your rights, please do not hesitate to reach out.
